Hunger seems to be gaining ground among certain segments of our society. People have started resorting to manipulating the way they eat so as to fit in to their tight budget. It is now common to see things like"1-0-1" which means breakfast, no lunch and dinner before going to bed. This pattern is changed or altered according to the flexibility of the individuals pocket. Cases of "0-1-0" meaning just lunch throughout the day, is increasingly being seen particulary among the very low income earners battling to stretch their lean purses until the next payday. |

And so after 40 years of adorning the Arabic inscription, our national currencies are now rid of it to the apparent satisfaction of those who have harboured an obsessive dislike of anything with a link to Islam or the North. Prominent among them must be our one and only Nobel Literature laureate, Wole Soyinka.
